    Bolling is on the southwest side of Washington, across the Anacostia River from the bulk of the city, which is undergoing some new development, and near the center of baseball in DC, just across the S.     Bolling Air Force Base is one of the original World War I Army Air Service installations in the United States Air Force. Initially, Bolling Air Force Base served as a testing ground for aviation equipment and provided protection for the capital by supplying aerial defense. Today (as Joint Base Anacostia Bolling) the base is home to the 11th Wing, which trains over 80,000 Airmen and deploys combat support for many countries and also home to the United States Air Force Band and the Honor Guard.
